Iraqi government supports Nechirvan Barzani for Kurdistan presidency
The Iraqi government has welcomed the voting of the Kurdish parliament for Nechirvan Barzani to be prime minister of the region's government for two years.

Adviser to the prime minister Mariam al-Rayyes said Barzani has the ability to solve problems and obstacles between Baghdad and Erbil through dialogue and understanding.

The majority of representatives in the Kurdish parliament voted on Thursday for Barzani to head the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and for Imad Ahmed to take the deputy PM post.

The voting session was held in the absence of opposition blocs the Kurdistan Islamic Group, the Kurdistan Islamic Union and the Gorran Movement.

The next government of the Kurdistan region is expected to be formed by Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Barzani, according to the strategic agreement signed between his party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. The deal allows each party to head the government for two years.
