President Barzani Calls for Urgent National Conference in Iraq
Salahaddin, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRP.org) – Following the sharp turn of events in Iraq and the issuing of an arrest warrant for Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashimi, Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani called for an urgent national conference to confront the dangers facing the political process in the country.

“We should all work together to provide security and stability and avoid any security vacuum after the withdrawal of American forces. We must also not underestimate or tolerate terrorism. At the same time however, security forces should not be used for political objectives,” said President Barzani in a statement today.

“It is extremely unfortunate that the situation is heading toward a critical crisis and that the partnership in government is under threat,” added the President, urging all sides to reconsider their hardline positions and return to the existing agreements. “I call for an urgent national conference to avoid a collapse of the political process.”
