Nujaifi Urges Iran's Continued Role in Iraq
Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi hailed Iran's unique role in the world of Islam, and asked Tehran to continue its positive role in Iraq.

Nujaifi made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili on the sidelines of the 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada.

At the meeting, Nujaifi praised Iran's initiative for hosting the Intifada conference and described it as an important and effective step in supporting the Palestinian cause.

He further noted Iran's unique role in the Muslim world and demanded the Islamic Republic to continue playing its positive role in various grounds in Iraq.

The Iraqi speaker also expressed the hope that the two countries' ties and cooperation would further promote.

"Iran and Iraq's unity can serve as a pivot for unity and solidarity in the world of Islam against enemies," he reiterated.

Further in the meeting, the two sides noted the historical and cultural commonalities of the Iranian and Iraqi nations, and underlined the need for taking the existing opportunities and utilizing the capacities to further deepen and expand the two countries' relations and cooperation.

Jalili, for his part, stressed the necessity for maintaining unity and reinvigorating the cultural, economic and political ties between the two states, and urged Iraqi officials to keep vigilant against the plots hatched by the foreign countries to sow discord among Iraq's political groups and parties.
