Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Celebrates International Women’s Day, Honors Kurdish Women’s Contributions

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended heartfelt congratulations to the women of Kurdistan and women worldwide, recognizing their vital role in the development and progress of the Kurdistan Region. In a message commemorating the day, PM Barzani paid tribute to the resilience, courage, and sacrifices of Kurdish women, highlighting their enduring contributions to Kurdish history and national identity.
“We have great respect and appreciation for the struggle, efforts, and prominent role of Kurdish women in the history of the people of Kurdistan, who have always been examples of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, and dedication,” PM Barzani stated. He emphasized the pivotal role Kurdish women have played throughout history, from leading revolutions to defending Kurdish rights, shaping the nation’s destiny.
The Prime Minister also underscored the growing presence and influence of women in the political, administrative, and social institutions of the Kurdistan Region. “It is a pleasure that today women in the Kurdistan Region have a prominent and effective role in the institutions of the Kurdistan Region,” he said, stressing the importance of fostering greater gender equality and expanding opportunities for women in all sectors.

PM Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) commitment to strengthening women’s rights, ensuring gender equality, and combating violence and discrimination against women. “We are committed to further creating equal opportunities for Kurdish women and increasing their participation rate and level in various fields of administration, as well as confronting all forms of violence and discrimination against women,” he declared.
In recent years, the KRG has taken significant steps to enhance legal protections for women, promote their inclusion in governance, and support initiatives aimed at improving women’s education, employment, and social standing. However, PM Barzani acknowledged that challenges remain and called for continued efforts to achieve full gender parity.
Concluding his message, Prime Minister Barzani wished continued progress and success to the women of Kurdistan and beyond. “Happy March 8th, and I wish further progress for the women of Kurdistan,” he said.
