Prime Minister Barzani Emphasizes the Importance of Kurdish Language on World Mother Language Day

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – On the occasion of World Mother Language Day, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Region highlighted the significance of the Kurdish language as a cornerstone of Kurdish identity and culture. In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of preserving and promoting the Kurdish language, calling it a vital element of the region’s heritage and unity.
Prime Minister Barzani stated, “I congratulate all Kurdistanis on World Mother Language Day. The Kurdish language is the primary and official language of the Kurdistan Region and, according to the Iraqi constitution, is one of the two official languages of Iraq.” He emphasized that the development of the Kurdish language is a collective responsibility, particularly for the institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government, as well as cultural, scientific, and academic organizations.
“Our language is a fundamental and essential foundation of our existence and our national and patriotic identity,” Barzani added. He called on all relevant institutions to prioritize the advancement of the Kurdish language, ensuring its continued growth and recognition.
