Continuing his meetings at the Munich Security Conference, President Nechirvan Barzani of the Kurdistan Region met today with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

The discussion focused on the UK’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, exploring ways to strengthen cooperation in political, security, and economic fields.

President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his appreciation for the UK’s continued support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, particularly regarding counterterrorism efforts and the development of security institutions. He emphasized the importance of maintaining this support to ensure long-term stability in the region.

Foreign Secretary Lammy reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He underscored Britain's ongoing support for the Kurdistan Region and highlighted the importance of joint coordination in addressing regional challenges, security threats, and economic obstacles.

The meeting also addressed the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, efforts to form the next Kurdistan Regional Government, the situation in Syria, regional developments, and other matters of mutual concern.
