Kurdistan Parliament Election Results to Be Ratified by IHEC
The High Council of Commissioners of Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) is set to meet on Sunday to ratify the results of the Kurdistan Parliament elections. This decision follows the resolution of all 44 election-related appeals by the IHEC's Judicial Committee, concluded on November 18. The appeals period, which began on October 31, saw political parties submit 41 appeals, with 25 originating from Sulaimani, 12 from Erbil, three from Duhok, and one from Halabja.
The final seat allocation for the Kurdistan Parliament, which consists of 100 seats—five of which are reserved for component quotas representing minority groups—reflects significant support for the leading parties. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) secured 39 seats, followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) with 23 seats. Other prominent political movements include the New Generation Movement, which earned 15 seats, and the Kurdistan Islamic Union with 7 seats.
