Electoral Judicial Commission Rejects Complaints Against Kurdistan Parliamentary Election Results
The Electoral Judicial Commission has rejected all 41 complaints submitted against the final results of the October 20 parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region.
In a statement issued today, the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) confirmed that the appeals had been thoroughly reviewed by the Electoral Judiciary Board, and all were dismissed.
"All the appeals have been rejected," Jumana Ghalai, spokesperson for the IHEC, told Iraqi official media.
The complaints, filed primarily from Sulaymaniyah province (25 cases), with 12 from Erbil, three from Duhok, and one from Halabja, challenged the final results announced on October 30.
Emad Jamil, head of IHEC’s Media Section, explained that the dismissal of appeals marks the final stage of the electoral process before the Council of Commissioners officially approves the results.
In the elections, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) secured the majority with 39 seats, followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), which won 23 seats. The elections were held on October 20, initiating the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament.
The rejection of the appeals reaffirms the integrity of the electoral process, paving the way for the final approval and implementation of the results.
