Israeli Airstrikes Target Syrian Military Sites in Aleppo and Idlib, Injuring Soldiers
Early Saturday morning, Israeli airstrikes targeted sites in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib, injuring several Syrian soldiers and causing material damage, Syrian state media reported. The attack occurred around 12:45 a.m. and was launched from southeast of Aleppo, according to Syria’s official news agency, SANA.
While the exact targets remain unspecified, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group, indicated that the strikes hit military installations in the region. The Observatory reported that members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and allied pro-Iranian factions, stationed in the area, may have been impacted.
Since the onset of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes across Syria, focusing on Syrian army positions and Iran-aligned forces, including Hezbollah fighters. The Israeli military has ramped up its strikes, especially since initiating a conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Although Israel seldom comments on these operations, its leaders have frequently stated they will prevent Iran, their main regional adversary, from expanding its foothold in Syria.
