Erbil, Kurdistan Region — President Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), held talks with Victoria Taylor, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, to discuss key political and security issues affecting Iraq, Syria, and the broader region.

Taylor praised Barzani’s initiative in sending a special envoy to Syria to engage with Kurdish parties, highlighting US support for efforts to foster Kurdish unity and stability in Syria and the region.

The meeting also focused on the relationship between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi federal government. Both parties underscored the importance of addressing unresolved issues through constructive dialogue. The US delegation expressed optimism about progress in negotiations and the formation of the new KRG cabinet.

In addition to political discussions, Barzani and Taylor emphasized the need to counter terrorism and uphold stability across Iraq and the region. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating extremist threats and ensuring long-term security for all communities.
