Christian Coalition Urges Swift Formation of New KRG Cabinet After Parliamentary Elections
The Christian Coalition in the Kurdistan Region has called for the rapid formation of a new cabinet for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) following the recent parliamentary elections. The Coalition gathered at the Chaldean Union headquarters in the Ankawa district on the evening of Friday, October 25, where they issued a detailed statement regarding the election process.
While acknowledging some criticisms, the Coalition described the overall conduct of the elections as satisfactory, emphasizing the urgency of forming the tenth cabinet of the KRG. The statement underscored the need for a stable and functioning government to address pressing regional issues.
The Coalition also emphasized the role of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), in safeguarding the democratic process in the Kurdistan Region. They further expressed their appreciation for Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's efforts in maintaining the constitutional integrity of the region.
Beyond the immediate formation of a new government, the Coalition called for a comprehensive review of the region's constitution and urged the drafting of a new electoral law to guide future parliamentary elections. These reforms, they argue, are essential to ensure a more effective and representative governance structure in the Kurdistan Region.
In the recent elections, the Christian Coalition successfully secured two quota seats—one in Erbil and another in Duhok province. The Coalition, which represents a broad spectrum of the Christian community, includes the Chaldean National Council Party, the Assyrian Community Movement Party, the World Chaldean Church, the Chaldean Democratic Union Party, the Armenian Orthodox Sect Administrative Committee, and the Armenian Cultural and Social Association.
As the region anticipates the formation of the new cabinet, the Christian Coalition's statement reflects a broader desire for stability, inclusivity, and progress within the Kurdistan Region.
