Explosion at Turkish Aerospace Industries Headquarters Near Ankara Kills Four, Injures 14

An explosion at the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) headquarters near the capital Ankara has left at least four people dead and 14 others injured, Turkish officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The attack, which occurred at the TUSAS complex in Kahramankazan, roughly 40 kilometers north of Ankara, has been described by Turkish authorities as a "terrorist attack." Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that two "terrorists were neutralized" and condemned the act as a "heinous attack."

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking from the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, also condemned the attack. "I condemn this heinous terror attack," Erdogan said, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives.

Following the explosion, shots were heard at the site, according to Turkey's Anadolu Agency. The area was swiftly cordoned off, and employees of TUSAS were evacuated to safety in bunkers as security forces responded to the situation.

TUSAS, a major developer and manufacturer of aerospace systems including combat aircraft and drones, is also a licensed producer of U.S.-designed F-16 fighter jets.

What We Know So Far:
Footage broadcast by local media showed thick clouds of black smoke and a large fire engulfing the site after the explosion. Turkish private broadcaster NTV reported that a group of assailants arrived at the complex in a taxi during a shift change of security personnel.

At least one of the attackers reportedly detonated a bomb at the entry point, while others managed to infiltrate the complex, leading to further chaos.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident as security remains tight around the area.
