Iraq's Electoral Commission to Announce Preliminary Results of Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections

The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq confirmed that it will announce the preliminary results of the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections on Sunday evening, October 21, 2024. The announcement will take place during a press conference scheduled for 5:00 PM in Baghdad.

Jumana Ghalai, the spokesperson for the Commission, stated that the results will be revealed within 24 hours of the close of voting. She emphasized the importance of verifying information, warning, "There may be misleading news on this matter before the results are published, so please ensure the accuracy of the information."

The general voting process for the sixth round of Kurdistan Parliament elections concluded on October 20, 2024, with a voter turnout of 72%, according to the Commission. Voting began early in the morning at 7:00 AM, with 2,683,618 voters participating out of a total of 2,899,578 eligible voters.

The electoral process was monitored by 16 consulates, 15 organizations, and 22 international media outlets. In addition, 9,610 local organizations and observers, along with 43,139 representatives from various political parties, oversaw the election in the Kurdistan Region.

The distribution of voters by electoral district was as follows:

Erbil: 933,115 voters
Sulaimani: 1,008,412 voters
Duhok: 682,791 voters
Halabja: 59,300 voters

The elections took place across 1,266 designated centers, comprising 6,318 polling stations. The breakdown of polling stations by district is as follows:

Erbil: 498 centers, 2,213 polling stations
Sulaimani: 477 centers, 2,373 polling stations
Duhok: 264 centers, 1,596 polling stations
Halabja: 27 centers, 136 polling stations

With widespread international and local oversight, the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections represent a significant moment in the democratic process of the Kurdistan Region, with final results expected to shape the political landscape of the region moving forward.
