US Consulate in Erbil Commends KRG for Special Voting Day for Security Forces

The US Consulate in Erbil has praised the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for designating a special voting day for security forces ahead of the general elections. In a statement posted on Facebook on Friday, the consulate expressed appreciation for the initiative, which allowed security personnel to cast their votes on October 18, ensuring their participation in the democratic process.

The special voting day, held two days before the general elections scheduled for October 20, saw a smooth turnout, with 77% of eligible security forces having voted by noon, according to election officials. The move was designed to enable security personnel, who will be on duty during the general elections, to exercise their voting rights in advance.

In its official message, the US Consulate highlighted the importance of providing equal access to voting for all eligible citizens, including those who might otherwise be unable to vote on election day. The consulate’s commendation reflects international support for the KRG’s efforts to uphold democratic practices in the region.

The special voting process proceeded without significant issues, contributing to the broader preparations for the upcoming general elections.
