PM Masrour Barzani Highlights Economic Inclusion, Sustainability, and Security in Duhok Debate
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani addressed key issues of governance, economic inclusion, and environmental sustainability during a public debate in Duhok on Friday. Engaging with citizens, PM Barzani outlined his administration's priorities, which focused on empowering marginalized groups, promoting economic development, and ensuring environmental protection.
In his remarks on economic inclusion, PM Barzani emphasized the need to integrate youth, women, and minorities into both governance and the economy. Highlighting the "Bloom" initiative, which offers public loans for business plans, he encouraged these groups to become active participants in the private sector. “We are creating opportunities for everyone, but individuals must also strive to enhance their skills to succeed in the job market,” Barzani stated.
The Prime Minister also spotlighted the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) green initiatives. These include various sustainability projects such as building ponds and dams, expanding green spaces, preserving forests, and promoting eco-friendly industries. "Our commitment to a sustainable future is unwavering," Barzani said, underlining the importance of environmental protection in his administration's broader strategy.
Addressing security concerns, Barzani spoke about the ongoing presence of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the region, specifically in Duhok province, and its role in drawing Turkish military operations into the Kurdistan Region. “The PKK is the reason for Turkey’s operations here. Turkey is fighting the PKK, not us,” he clarified.
PM Barzani's public engagement in Duhok underscored his administration’s focus on addressing the intertwined challenges of security, economic development, and environmental sustainability, while promoting an inclusive governance model.
I’m humbled by the recent conversation with people in Duhok — about their needs, concerns and hopes.
