Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani laid the cornerstone for the Bardarash-Khabat Highway on Thursday, marking the beginning of a strategic infrastructure project aimed at connecting key areas in the region. The highway is expected to significantly benefit road users and communities along the route, providing enhanced connectivity and supporting regional economic growth.

During the ceremony, Barzani highlighted the importance of this project, emphasizing that it will link Bardarash, Kalak, and Khabat, as well as connect Erbil to Duhok and Mosul, facilitating trade and transportation, particularly for large vehicles coming from Turkey into the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

"This road is not just about connecting towns; it’s an economic lifeline," Barzani said. "It will improve trade routes and ensure safer travel for everyone."

Barzani also praised the involvement of the local workforce in these road projects, which contributes to job creation and skill development across the Kurdistan Region. He reiterated his government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure, with a focus on building roads and highways to international standards for the safety and protection of the people.

The Prime Minister called on drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, stressing that improved roads do not mean faster driving but safer commuting. He urged residents to prioritize safety for themselves and others using the road.

In his address, Barzani also underscored the economic potential of the Bardarash area, mentioning its proximity to a river that supports agriculture and tourism. He highlighted the region’s agricultural products, including rice, potatoes, and tahini, which have gained international recognition.
