Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Meets with U.S. Delegation

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received a U.S. delegation, led by Congressman Seth Moulton, on the afternoon of Friday, October 11, 2024. The meeting was also attended by the U.S. Consul General to the region, Steve Fagin.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in Iraq and the region, as well as discussing ways to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States. Congressman Moulton highlighted that the Kurdistan Region is a trusted friend and ally of the U.S. in the region, and he emphasized the importance of supporting the Peshmerga forces and ensuring the security of the Kurdistan Region.

For his part, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude to the U.S. for its continued support and assistance to the region. He affirmed the Kurdistan Region's commitment to strengthening cooperation between both sides across various fields.

The meeting focused on the progress of reforms within the Ministry of Peshmerga, with both sides agreeing on the importance of supporting, enhancing, and accelerating the reform process in the ministry to ensure the unification of its forces.

Additionally, the discussions addressed the need to resume the export of Kurdistan Region oil, preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the region, the U.S. presidential election, the ongoing conflicts and escalations in the Middle East, and efforts to achieve security and stability in the region as a whole.
