IHEC Calls for Support Ahead of Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections
The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has urged political parties, alliances, and candidates to support its efforts in ensuring the success of the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 20. The commission has announced that it has completed most of the preparations for the sixth round of these elections.
In a statement, the IHEC emphasized the importance of conducting election campaigns free from violent rhetoric, hatred, and insults towards opposing candidates and parties. The commission highlighted the need for a respectful and civil electoral process, encouraging candidates to engage in constructive dialogue rather than confrontational tactics.
The IHEC also reminded participants of the electoral process to adhere to legal procedures when filing complaints or appeals. It urged candidates to avoid direct confrontations and instead rely on established mechanisms for dispute resolution. The commission pledged to review complaints impartially and independently, reinforcing its commitment to fairness in the electoral process.
Calling on all stakeholders—including voters, coalitions, political parties, candidates, observers, and the media—the IHEC stressed the need for collective support to ensure free and fair elections that are trusted by all. The commission reaffirmed its dedication to professionalism and impartiality, emphasizing its role in achieving electoral justice and safeguarding the voice of the electorate.
The statement concluded with a hopeful message: “We hope the results of these elections will be a real step towards a safe and prosperous future for our people in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.”
