Nechirvan Barzani Highlights Kurdish Struggle and Resilience in KDP Election Campaign Speech
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Vice President Nechirvan Barzani delivered a stirring speech today during the KDP’s parliamentary election campaign in Erbil, celebrating the party's 78-year legacy and its central role in the Kurdish people's struggle for freedom and unity. Addressing a large crowd of party supporters, Barzani emphasized the KDP’s historical and ongoing commitment to serving the Kurdish people, describing the party as an enduring symbol of resilience and progress.
“Today, we gather in the light of the 78-year-old torch of the KDP,” Barzani declared. “The story of the Kurdish people and the KDP has become inseparable. Our path has not been easy, and while we still face challenges, the Kurdish people know that the KDP has proudly raised this torch, promising to carry it forward.”
Barzani reiterated his belief in the Kurdish people’s courage and determination to achieve their long-held aspirations for freedom. He called for a renewed sense of strength and hope, asserting that the KDP has overcome challenges in the past and will continue to rise in its service to the Kurdish people.
Reflecting on the historical significance of the KDP, Barzani said, “The KDP is more than just a political party. It is a movement, a beacon of light for all Kurdish communities. Founded in 1946, it was not merely an organization but a new star for a people long deprived of their rights, voice, and identity. The KDP embodies the path of Kurdishness, resistance, and struggle.”
The Vice President also honored the sacrifices made by countless individuals in pursuit of Kurdish freedom, emphasizing that their struggles were not in vain. “Freedom is not given as a holiday but achieved through struggle and sacrifice,” he stated, referencing challenges such as budget cuts, threats from ISIS, and military blockades. Despite these obstacles, Barzani praised the Kurdish people for their steadfast support of their parliament, government, and presidency.
Concluding his speech, Barzani called for further progress in all areas of Kurdish society, drawing inspiration from the symbolic torch of Newroz as a representation of hope and renewal. “Under the leadership of President Masoud Barzani and the KDP, we will ensure the political, social, and cultural development of our country,” he affirmed, expressing the party’s commitment to a prosperous and proud Kurdistan.
The speech marked a key moment in the KDP’s campaign ahead of the parliamentary elections, as the party seeks to build on its legacy and shape the future of the Kurdistan Region.
