Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Inaugurates Largest Livestock and Dairy Project in Kurdistan

In a major move to strengthen food security in the Kurdistan Region, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the "Kavin Farm" project today in the Semel district of Duhok. The project, which focuses on livestock breeding and the production of dairy products, marks a significant milestone in the government's efforts to boost local food production.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Barzani underscored the strategic importance of the project, noting that its benefits will extend beyond Semel to impact Duhok and other provinces across the region. He highlighted that ensuring a stable food supply is one of the government's top priorities, emphasizing that food security is a cornerstone for stability and development.

“The launch of Kavin Farm is not only about increasing food production but also about driving economic development by creating hundreds of jobs for the people of Semel,” said Barzani. He pointed out that developing the agricultural sector is a crucial step toward expanding and diversifying the region’s income sources, with the farm serving as a model for future projects.

The Prime Minister praised the Kurdistan Region’s progress in agriculture and expressed optimism for more achievements in the near future. He also revealed plans to further enhance the industrial sector, which will provide additional employment opportunities for young people, contributing to overall economic growth.

Barzani highlighted the government's successful efforts to connect Kurdistan's agricultural products to global markets, particularly in the Gulf region. “We have already begun exporting various products internationally, and we are committed to increasing these exports,” he stated, pointing to the potential for agricultural exports to strengthen the region's trade relations with key economic partners.

The "Kavin Farm" project is now the largest of its kind in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, covering an area of 3,000 dunams and costing over $80 million. The farm is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for livestock breeding, milking, and dairy processing, ensuring the production of high-quality, preservative-free dairy products. It represents a significant leap forward for the region’s agricultural industry and is expected to play a pivotal role in securing food supply and supporting economic stability.

With projects like Kavin Farm, the Kurdistan Regional Government continues to prioritize sustainable development, creating opportunities that benefit the region's citizens and contribute to long-term prosperity.
