Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Inaugurates Erbil Copper & Cable Company, First of Its Kind in Kurdistan Region and Iraq

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani attended the opening ceremony of the Erbil Copper & Cable Company, marking the launch of the first metal copper, wire, and cable manufacturing plant in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

The state-of-the-art facility, established at a cost of over $80 million, spans an area of 175,000 square meters and houses six factories. The project, which began in early 2021 and was completed by the end of 2023, represents a significant milestone in the industrial development of the region.

The Erbil Copper & Cable Company provides a full range of services, including assembly, design, manufacturing, testing, delivery, and connection of high-quality copper wires and cables. The company adheres to international standards and holds two European certifications, underscoring its commitment to quality.

During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Barzani hailed the project as a vital step toward boosting the local economy and industrial sector. "This facility is not only a major leap forward for Kurdistan but also for Iraq, providing local job opportunities and reducing reliance on imports," Barzani said.

The factory complex has created nearly 200 job opportunities, with 160 of those positions filled by local workers. The six factories within the complex include a copper scrap melting plant, a copper melt molding plant, a copper wire production site, a PVC manufacturing plant, a cable manufacturing plant, and an oxygen production facility.

In addition to its production capabilities, the Erbil Copper & Cable Company features its own electricity generating station with a capacity of 11.4 MW, ensuring a stable power supply for its operations.

The establishment of the factory is expected to contribute significantly to the region's economic development, providing high-quality copper products for both local and international markets while fostering further industrial growth in the Kurdistan Region.
