KDP Vice President Masrour Barzani Reaffirms Commitment to Kurdish Rights and Unity
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Vice President Masrour Barzani underscored the party's long-standing dedication to defending Kurdish rights and maintaining the territorial integrity of the Kurdistan Region during a recent meeting with party members in Erbil.
Addressing the gathering, Barzani emphasized the importance of elections as the only legitimate method for determining governance in the region. He reaffirmed the KDP's firm opposition to any division of Kurdistan, referencing the party's refusal to relinquish Kirkuk, a city long claimed by the Kurdish people. “The KDP, under the leadership of the late Barzani, refused to give up Kirkuk because it believed that no part of Kurdistan could be separated from Kurdistan,” Barzani said, expressing pride in the party's efforts to safeguard the rights of the Kurdish people.
Barzani also reflected on the 2017 independence referendum, noting that it demonstrated the unwavering will of the Kurdish people. “The KDP showed the world that the will of the people of the Kurdistan Region is a will that will never be broken,” he said, describing the referendum as an expression of the citizens' fundamental rights.
The vice president highlighted the KDP’s role in promoting regional stability, particularly in the fight against the Islamic State (IS). He stated, “We aim to replace war and chaos with better projects that serve our citizens,” emphasizing the party's efforts to ensure a prosperous future for the region despite ongoing challenges, including external threats and budgetary issues.
Barzani reiterated the KDP’s commitment to improving key sectors such as education, healthcare, and the economy, expressing optimism about upcoming initiatives. He assured that the party’s slogans of peace, unity, and resistance are not mere rhetoric but a reflection of its dedication to transparency and accountability toward the citizens of Kurdistan.
Additionally, Barzani reaffirmed the KDP's resolve to protect the rights of all communities within Kurdistan, including Turkmen and Christians. He stressed the significance of the upcoming parliamentary elections, describing them as a crucial moment for determining the future of the region. “We want a more decent and happier life, and the KDP is ready to be honest with you for this goal,” Barzani declared.
In closing, the KDP vice president called for unity, urging that the interests of the Kurdish people should be prioritized over all political considerations as the region continues to face instability in the Middle East. “The KDP is fighting for this,” he said, affirming the party’s readiness to defend the Kurdish people against any threats.
