Bastora Dam Enhances Agricultural Support and Water Conservation in the Kurdistan Region

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Bastora Dam, standing 20 meters high and stretching 560 meters long, has become a significant asset for the Kurdistan Region's water resource management and agricultural activities. With the capacity to hold up to 20 million cubic meters of water, the dam currently retains 1 million cubic meters, contributing to the region's groundwater conservation efforts.

The multipurpose dam not only aids in groundwater conservation but also promotes tourism, supports irrigation, and sustains local fish resources. The picturesque landscape created by the dam has turned the area into a potential tourism attraction, further boosting the local economy.

Dams like Bastora are instrumental in supporting farmers, providing a reliable water supply for agricultural activities. Additionally, they play a crucial role in reducing the risk of flooding, thereby protecting land and infrastructure from potential damage. The scenic beauty of these dams also enhances the appeal of the region, making it an attractive destination for tourists.

Recognizing the importance of such infrastructure, the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) continues to prioritize the construction of dams. This initiative is seen as a vital component in the region’s strategy to protect and manage water resources, ensuring long-term sustainability and prosperity for the area.

As the KRG moves forward with its infrastructure plans, the Bastora Dam stands as a testament to the government's commitment to enhancing agricultural support, safeguarding water resources, and promoting regional development.
