Turkish Drone Strike Targets PYD Headquarters in Qamishli, Casualties Reported
A Turkish drone strike on Thursday targeted a headquarters of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Qamishli, northeastern Syria, resulting in multiple casualties. The attack occurred in an industrial area near the Antariya neighborhood, causing a powerful explosion that drew emergency response teams to the site, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Following the strike, security forces quickly cordoned off the area. Although initial reports indicate casualties, the exact number of those killed or injured remains unclear at this time, the observatory noted.
This incident is the latest in a series of Turkish drone attacks on territories controlled by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). Since the beginning of 2024, Turkey has conducted 92 drone strikes in these regions, leading to the deaths of 29 individuals. Among the victims are 25 military personnel associated with the AANES, three Syrian regime soldiers, and one civilian. Additionally, more than 27 military personnel and 16 civilians, including three women and three children, have sustained injuries.
The province of Al-Hasakah has been particularly affected, with 66 strikes resulting in the deaths of three regime soldiers, 18 military personnel, and one civilian. Other affected areas include Raqqa, where three military personnel were killed, and rural Aleppo, where four military personnel lost their lives.
The increasing frequency of Turkish drone strikes highlights the ongoing volatility and complex security dynamics in northeastern Syria, where various actors remain entangled in a prolonged and multifaceted conflict.
