In a critical meeting held on Thursday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Major General Kevin C. Leahy, Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), to discuss the persistent threat posed by ISIS. The discussions underscored the necessity of continued cooperation between the Iraqi army, Peshmerga forces, and the International Coalition to ensure the complete eradication of the terrorist organization.

Both President Barzani and Maj. Gen. Leahy recognized the ongoing danger that ISIS represents, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and strengthening the Coalition’s efforts in the region. They highlighted the crucial role of joint military actions and the need for sustained international support to address the threat effectively.

The meeting also focused on the ongoing reforms and unification of the Peshmerga forces. President Barzani expressed his commitment to completing these processes, acknowledging the successful progress made so far. He also conveyed his gratitude for the support provided by the International Coalition, which has been instrumental in advancing these reforms.

In addition to security matters, the leaders discussed the broader regional situation, expressing concerns over the complex dynamics in the Middle East. They stressed the importance of preserving stability and preventing further complications in the region.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, the Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga, and the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, reflecting the high level of importance attributed to these discussions.
