Kurdistan Presidency Condemns Intolerance, Calls for Peace and Tolerance Amid Social Media Backlash

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, August 9, 2024

In recent days, there has been a significant backlash, particularly on social media platforms, in response to an erroneous remark made by a Yazidi figure. It is important to underscore that any form of violation or disrespect towards any belief system or religion is intolerable, and we unequivocally denounce such actions.

Concurrently, the error committed by an individual, irrespective of their religious affiliation, ought not to be generalized as a fault of the entire religious community. Consequently, it is imperative for all individuals to embrace a culture characterized by mutual acceptance, tolerance, and harmonious coexistence, while actively working to prevent hate speech.

The relevant authorities bear the responsibility for legal inquiry and accountability. We affirm that the Kurdistan Region will consistently serve as a model of peaceful coexistence. There will be no justification for instigating disorder or endangering the citizens of Kurdistan, as well as its religious and ethnic communities.
