Kurdistan Region’s Interior Minister Visits German Federal Agency for Technical Relief to Enhance Cooperation
Rebar Ahmad, the Minister of Interior for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), recently visited the headquarters of the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) to discuss strengthening collaboration between the two entities.
During the visit, Minister Ahmad met with Sabine Lackner, the newly appointed President of THW and the first woman to hold this position. He congratulated her on her appointment and expressed appreciation for the agency's partnership with the KRG’s Ministry of Interior.
The meeting focused on the ongoing relationship between the THW and the Kurdistan Region, with both parties emphasizing the importance of their cooperation. Sabine Lackner highlighted the agency's pride in its international contributions, notably its efforts in providing relief for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
Discussions also covered the next stages of joint work, signaling a continued commitment to mutual goals. The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief plays a crucial role in crisis and disaster response within Germany and is a significant partner for the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Interior.
As a key component of Germany's civil protection infrastructure, THW is known for its rapid and efficient response to natural disasters and emergencies. Its volunteers are frequently deployed to handle situations such as pumping out flooded basements, clearing streets of debris, and stabilizing buildings at risk of collapse.
The meeting marks an important step in furthering the cooperative efforts between the Kurdistan Region and Germany, aiming to enhance technical relief capabilities and disaster preparedness in the region.
