UK Strengthens Relations with Kurdistan Region Through Continued Support for Peshmerga Forces
The United Kingdom is strengthening its relationship with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) through continued collaboration in various sectors. This effort is spearheaded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the UK Embassy in Iraq, and the Consulate General in Erbil, working closely with the KRG's presidency office and ministries.
The British Embassy in Iraq has confirmed that the UK will persist in supporting the Peshmerga forces, highlighting the importance of their role in maintaining regional stability. This commitment was reinforced during a recent meeting between Lieutenant General Issa Ozer, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Peshmerga, and Graeme Wearmouth of the UK military, along with his accompanying delegation.
In a statement by the Peshmerga Ministry, it was noted that the meeting focused on the ongoing British assistance and coordination with the Peshmerga forces. The UK Military Delegation in Iraq reiterated their dedication to assisting the Peshmerga and emphasized the need to bolster the partnership between the Kurdistan Region and the UK.
Discussions also covered the latest progress in the reform process within the Peshmerga Ministry. The UK delegation confirmed their continued support for these reforms, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and capabilities of the Peshmerga forces.
Both sides acknowledged the importance of further strengthening relations and cooperation to address mutual challenges and advance shared interests in the region. This collaboration reflects the UK's ongoing commitment to fostering stability and development in the Middle East, particularly within the Kurdistan Region.
