Erbil, Kurdistan Region, August 3, 2024

President Nechirvan Barzani received Major General Joel B. Vowell, Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, in Erbil today.

The President thanked General Vowell for his dedicated service throughout his mission and wished him success in his future endeavors. He also reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude for the international coalition’s support in the fight against ISIS in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

General Vowell noted his positive experience working in Iraq and Syria, appreciating the cooperation and support from the Kurdistan Region. He also emphasized the ongoing need for international support for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting, attended by the Chief of Staff of the Kurdistan Peshmerga and other officials from both sides, highlighted a shared recognition of ISIS as an ongoing significant threat to regional peace and stability.

They also discussed the current situation in Iraq and Syria and the latest regional developments.
