On 41st Anniversary of Anfal Campaign, Canadian Embassy Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Stability in Iraq

The Canadian Embassy Office in Erbil has today reiterated its dedication to fostering peace and stability across Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region. This announcement comes on the 41st anniversary of the Anfal campaign, a brutal offensive launched by Saddam Hussein's regime against the Barzanis.

In a statement released on the X platform, the embassy noted, "Today marks 41 years since the Anfal campaign by Saddam’s regime against the Barzanis, which led to the death of thousands of innocent men, women, and children."

The statement continued, "Canada reaffirms its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Iraq, including Kurdistan, to prevent such atrocities from occurring in the future."

This reaffirmation highlights Canada’s ongoing support for regional stability and its dedication to preventing future acts of violence.
