Car Bomb Targets Senior KDP Official Akram Salih in Kelar, Garmian

Kelar, Garmian – A car belonging to Akram Salih, head of the 22nd branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), was destroyed in an explosion in front of his residence in Kelar on Monday. Salih, a prominent KDP figure in the Garmian region, claims the explosion was a targeted attack orchestrated by experts.

In a press conference, Salih stated that all evidence points to him being under surveillance prior to the explosion. He was approaching his vehicle when it detonated, leaving the car completely burned out.

“I suspect the car was detonated remotely. It was completely destroyed by fire. Fortunately, I am safe, though some of the Peshmerga personnel with me sustained minor injuries,” Salih remarked.

Salih, considering the explosion to be a terrorist act, called for a thorough investigation by local authorities, police, and security forces. "We have not encountered any previous issues, so I urge a detailed inquiry into this incident," he emphasized.

According to Salih, the swift reaction of those present at the scene prevented a greater tragedy. “If we hadn’t reacted swiftly and escaped within seconds, we could have been engulfed by the flames in our vehicles,” he noted.

The KDP official pointed out the sophistication of the attack, indicating the placement of the explosive device directly beneath his seat. "This type of operation requires expertise. It was a significant incident, with an explosive device placed directly beneath my seat," he stated.

Salih's comments suggest the involvement of an organized group, further underscoring the need for a comprehensive investigation to ensure the safety of local officials and prevent future incidents.
