Kurdish Leader Masoud Barzani's Visit to Baghdad Expected to Strengthen Relations Between Kurdistan Region and Federal Government of Iraq

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced that the recent visit of Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), to Baghdad is anticipated to greatly enhance relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Federal Government of Iraq. Barzani's visit, acknowledged by Hussein as a significant event in the Iraqi political landscape, underscores his influential role in fostering stronger ties between the two governments.

Barzani, accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Region, was warmly received last week at Baghdad International Airport by Deputy Prime Ministers Mohammed Tamim and Fuad Hussein, along with several Iraqi government and political officials. During his stay, President Barzani conducted over 17 meetings with various political leaders, government officials, and ambassadors of foreign nations in Iraq. These discussions focused on bolstering cooperation and addressing mutual concerns between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal Government.

In parallel diplomatic activities, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein attended the NATO Summit in Washington, D.C., where he participated in high-level discussions with international leaders. Following the summit, Hussein held a press conference to address key issues and provide insights into Iraq’s role on the global stage. During the summit, Hussein emphasized Iraq’s commitment to international security and cooperation, highlighting the importance of global partnerships in addressing regional challenges and promoting sustainable development.

Hussein’s active participation in the NATO Summit and his engagement with global leaders reflect Iraq’s dedication to playing a constructive role in international affairs and its commitment to building stronger alliances for the future. This visit marks a significant step towards enhancing dialogue and collaboration, setting a positive tone for future interactions between Baghdad and Washington.
