KRG Reintegrates Over 12,000 Children into Education System

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – In a significant achievement, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has successfully reintegrated more than 12,000 children into the education system this year, announced Alan Hama Saeed, the KRG Minister of Education.

"With the support of UNICEF, Barzani Charity Foundation, PAW, NRC, Intersos Humanitarian Organization, and Kurdistan Save the Children’s Fund, we have conducted an intensive field campaign over the past five years," Saeed stated.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, the campaign has managed to bring back 12,334 children who had been separated from schools and the education process. Saeed also highlighted that during the tenure of the ninth cabinet, the KRG has returned a total of 26,384 children to school.

"This significant achievement was the result of meticulous planning. We ensured that the ministry, teachers, and all individuals involved did not just focus on those who had left the education process but also took serious steps to reintegrate them," Saeed emphasized.

He explained that many of these children were excluded from education before this cabinet, with some belonging to previous years. "Some were so old that they have been placed in extraordinary education programs, as ordinary education does not cover them," he noted.
