Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Engages in Productive Discussions with Kurdish Officials in Erbil

Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani held a press conference on Friday, announcing successful discussions with officials from the Kurdistan Region during his visit to Iraq. The talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of trade and regional stability.

Bagheri Kani expressed his gratitude towards Iraqi officials, especially those from the Kurdistan Region, for their condolences following the tragic passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other key officials. "I would like to express my gratitude to the Iraqi officials, particularly those from the Kurdistan Region, for their condolences following the passing of the Iranian President and other officials," stated Bagheri Kani.

During his visit, the Iranian Acting Foreign Minister underscored the importance of strengthening relations with the Kurdistan Region. Emphasizing economic cooperation, Bagheri Kani highlighted the potential for developing trade between Iran and the Region as a cornerstone of their future relations.

Arriving in Erbil on Friday, Bagheri Kani met with top Kurdish officials, including Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, President Nechirvan Barzani, and Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). These meetings signal Iran's commitment to deepening ties with the Kurdistan Region and working collaboratively on mutual interests.

The visit comes in the wake of a tragic helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province, which claimed the lives of Iran's former President Ebrahim Raisi and his team, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The accident, caused by adverse weather conditions, led to an exhaustive 18-hour search before the wreckage was discovered, confirming the loss of all nine passengers.

In their discussions, Kurdish and Iranian officials focused on the development of bilateral relations, security issues, and regional stability. Both sides emphasized the importance of good neighborly relations and working together to address shared challenges.
