On Friday, 24 May 2024, Halgurd Salayi from the Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) announced that Dr. Ahmad Hassen al-Hammadi, Secretary-General of Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to arrive in Erbil to meet with Safeen Dizayee, head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's DFR.

Salayi stated that the visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the State of Qatar. The visiting delegation is set to hold various meetings with key regional officials and to inaugurate the Consulate General of the State of Qatar on Sunday, 26 May 2024.

There are 41 consulates, consular offices, embassy offices, international organisations and agencies, and honorary consulates in the Kurdistan Region.
