Kurdistan Region Welcomes Over 200,000 Tourists During Eid al-Fitr Celebrations

During the recent Eid al-Fitr holidays, the Kurdistan Region saw an influx of over 200,000 tourists exploring its varied tourist destinations. Ibrahim Abdul-Majid, head of Media and Communications at the Tourism Board, reported that the visitors arrived between April 8 and 13, coming from Iraq, Iran, Türkiye, and beyond. Additionally, the region experienced a significant rise in domestic tourism, with around 150,000 local tourists visiting resorts and other popular spots within Kurdistan Region.

These figures are part of a broader trend observed during major holidays, such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, which typically attract large numbers of visitors from central and southern Iraq to Kurdistan’s scenic locations.

In 2023, the board recorded 3,100 establishments providing tourism services, including attractions, hotels, restaurants, motels, cafeterias, celebration halls, funfairs and more. Specifically, the region hosts 1,075 tourist accommodations, consisting of 625 hotels, 370 motels, and 80 tourist villages. Furthermore, approximately 800 restaurants and cafeterias enhance the visitor experience, along with numerous tourist huts throughout the area.

Reflecting on the year’s success, the region welcomed more than 1.7 million tourists in the first four months of 2024 alone.
