On 29 February 2024, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with United States Senator Chris Van Hollen in Washington, D.C., highlighting the strategic alliance between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.

Senator Van Hollen stressed the importance of the Kurdistan Region as a key ally in the Middle East and reiterated his strong support for the region's security, stability, and constitutional rights within Iraq.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked the United States for its ongoing friendship, cooperation, and support. He emphasised the need to uphold the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people and the rights of various ethnic and religious communities, advocating for peaceful coexistence.

Additionally, Prime Minister Barzani urged the international community to protect the rights of all ethnic and religious groups in Kurdistan and Iraq, ensuring they are respected.
