Kurdistan Region Interior Minister Urges Neighboring Nations to Avoid Using Region for Resolving Disputes
In a bid to maintain peace and stability within the Kurdistan Region, Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed issued a resolute call to neighboring countries, urging them to desist from employing the region as a battleground for settling their disputes. Particularly emphasizing the ongoing conflict between the Turkish army and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Ahmed underscored the necessity of preserving the Kurdistan Region's integrity as a sovereign entity, free from external confrontations.
This appeal came to the fore following a pivotal meeting between Kurdish officials and Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler. Addressing the press after the deliberations, Ahmed reiterated the imperative for cessation of attacks on the Kurdistan Region, while cautioning against its exploitation as a venue for extraneous conflicts.
Highlighting the broader regional dynamics, Ahmed revealed that discussions between Minister Güler and Iraqi authorities in Baghdad had centered on fortifying coordination and enhancing relations between Iraq and Turkey, aimed at fostering border stability and prosperity.
In parallel efforts, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani convened with Minister Güler, engaging in a comprehensive review of the prevailing conditions in Iraq and affirming the mutual commitment to bolster bilateral ties. Emphasizing the paramount significance of sustained collaboration and concerted action, both leaders underscored the pivotal role of joint efforts in safeguarding the security and stability not only within the Kurdistan Region but also across Iraq and the wider region.
As tensions simmer in the region, the Kurdistan Region remains steadfast in its pursuit of peace and calls upon neighboring nations to respect its sovereignty and refrain from entangling it in external conflicts.
