President Nechirvan Barzani had a meeting with the Finnish Ambassador to Iraq Ms. Anu Saarela today. During their discussion, both sides expressed their shared commitment to enhancing relations and expanding cooperation between Finland, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region across various sectors. The President and Ambassador Saarela also spoke about the political and security situation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Iraq.

The President conveyed the Kurdistan Region’s appreciation for Finland’s involvement in the international coalition against ISIS, and commended Finland’s support in the fight against terrorism in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The President expressed gratitude towards the Finnish forces currently stationed in the Kurdistan Region.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the impact and ramifications of the conflict in Ukraine, the latest developments in the tensions in the Middle East, the ongoing war in Gaza, and other issues of mutual interest.
