The attack, which occurred on Thursday, resulted in the suspension of electricity generation in various areas of the Kurdistan Region as power stations were forced to shut down due to the assault on the critical Khor Mor gas field. The U.S. Department of State, in a statement issued on Friday, expressed deep concern over the deliberate act, emphasizing the need for swift action to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

The U.S. called on the Iraqi government to initiate a thorough investigation, aiming to identify and bring to justice those behind the assault. The statement underscored the importance of holding accountable those responsible for the attack on Khor Mor, considered one of the largest gas fields in the Kurdistan Region.

The Ministry of Electricity in the Kurdistan Regional Government reported a significant reduction in electricity production to over 2800 megawatts following the assault. In response to the incident, Iraq's Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, has ordered a formal investigation into the targeting of the strategic Khor Mor gas field.

The Security Media Cell, in a statement, highlighted General Al-Sudani's commitment to taking legal measures against the perpetrators of what is deemed a criminal act.
