A delegation from the Iraqi Parliament's Security and Defense Committees, as well as the Foreign Relations Committee, arrived in Erbil today, Sunday, to investigate the recent missile attacks by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on the capital of the Kurdistan Region.

The delegation landed at Erbil International Airport in the afternoon and immediately proceeded to the site of the missile strikes on the residence of the late Peshraw Dizayee. The purpose is to assess the aftermath of the Iranian attack and examine the destruction caused.

Murywan Dizayee, a member of the Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, confirmed that the committees would visit Erbil to conduct an investigation into the missile attack that targeted the residence of businessman Peshraw Dizayee, resulting in his tragic death and that of his daughter, along with other civilians.

Dizayee stated to Kurdistan24 that the committees would visit the site of the attack and provide a detailed report on the targeting incident.

Earlier, a government investigation delegation led by Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji visited the wounded and the site of the missile attack. Al-Araji, speaking to Kurdistan24, emphasized that the targeted location was a civilian residence and not a base for Israeli intelligence.

Late on the night of Monday, January 15, 2024, Erbil faced a missile attack claimed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of five civilian citizens and injuries to six others.

Following the Iranian assault, Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, called on the federal government to take a firm stance against the violation that affected the sovereignty of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He also urged the international community not to remain silent in the face of the injustice suffered by the people of Kurdistan.

President Masoud Barzani stated in a released statement that these Iranian attacks reflect the extent of the injustice committed against the people of the Kurdistan Region.

In response, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iraq's Ambassador to Tehran, Nasir Abdul Mohsen, for consultations regarding the recent Iranian attacks on Erbil.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani considered the Erbil bombing as an aggressive act undermining the relationship between Baghdad and Tehran.

Local, regional, and international reactions have poured in condemning the attacks on civilian homes in Erbil, calling on Iran to cease its "aggression" against Kurdistan.

Iraq filed a complaint with the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations concerning the "Iranian missile aggression targeting the city of Erbil, resulting in casualties among innocent civilians, injuries, and damage to public and private properties."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs submitted identical complaints to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the United Nations Security Council through Iraq's Permanent Mission in New York, asserting that this aggression constitutes a blatant violation of Iraq's sovereignty, regional integrity, and the security of the Iraqi people.
