Israeli Airstrike Targets IRGC Leaders in Damascus: Five Dead, Including Quds Force Commander's Successor
In a targeted Israeli airstrike on the Al-Mazah neighborhood, west of the Syrian capital, Damascus, five individuals have lost their lives, with strong indications linking them to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The strike, which occurred earlier today, reportedly targeted key figures associated with the IRGC in the region.
Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency later confirmed the deaths of two senior advisers within the IRGC due to the airstrike. The Sabereen News channel went further, reporting the specific individuals targeted, claiming the assassination of "Haj Sadiq Omidzadeh, the IRGC Quds Force commander in Syria, and Haj Gholam, also known as Haj Muharram, the successor of the Quds Force commander."
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has identified the Al-Mazah neighborhood as a security zone housing leaders from both the IRGC and Palestinian factions closely aligned with Iran. This incident follows another Israeli strike on December 25, 2023, in which Seyed Razi Mousavi, a senior IRGC commander in Syria, lost his life in Damascus.
Tensions in the region continue to escalate as these targeted airstrikes raise concerns about the broader geopolitical landscape and the ongoing conflict dynamics involving Israel, Iran, and their respective allies. The situation is evolving rapidly, with international stakeholders closely monitoring developments in the aftermath of these targeted operations. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
