Drone Attack Targets Erbil Airport Amid Rising Tensions in the Region

In a troubling escalation of hostilities, three explosive-laden drones were shot down over Erbil International Airport early Tuesday morning, where US-led Coalition forces are stationed. The Kurdistan Region's Counter-Terrorism Unit confirmed the incident, revealing that the attack occurred at 5:05 AM with no reported damage or casualties.

This follows a series of drone and rocket attacks on Coalition bases in Erbil and Harir, a trend that gained momentum after the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip. Militia groups, including the Iran-backed Islamic Resistance in Iraq, have claimed responsibility for these attacks.

The latest assault comes on the heels of a ballistic missile attack on Erbil the previous night, resulting in the tragic loss of four civilians, including prominent Kurdish businessman Peshraw Dizayee, and injuring six others. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) promptly claimed responsibility for the missile strike.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned the "cowardly" attacks and called for decisive international action against Iran's blatant violations of Kurdistan Region's sovereignty. The assaults have drawn condemnation from local and international entities, prompting the Iraqi government to announce its intention to file a complaint against Iran at the UN National Security Council.

Kataeb Hezbollah in Iraq has openly declared its intent to continue such attacks on US interests in the region, further raising concerns about the stability of the area and the safety of those living and working there. The international community closely watches developments, urging diplomatic solutions to ease tensions and prevent further acts of aggression.
