Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Congratulates Newly Elected Head of International Union of Muslim Scholars
In a phone call on Monday, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his congratulations to Ali Qaradghi, the newly elected head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS). Qaradghi succeeded Yousif Qaradhawi, who passed away in 2022.
During the conversation, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his well-wishes to Qaradghi for his new role, emphasizing the importance of serving Islam and defending the rights of oppressed nations, including the Kurdish people. The statement released by the premier's office highlighted Barzani's hopes for success in Qaradaghi's mission.
In response, the newly elected leader of the IUMS conveyed his appreciation for Prime Minister Barzani's call and congratulatory remarks.
The announcement of Qaradghi's election came after the Union's sixth congress held in Doha, Qatar, where he secured an overwhelming 91 percent of the votes. The International Union of Muslim Scholars, established in 2004, is dedicated to conveying the message of Islam and guiding Muslims in understanding the provisions of their religion. Additionally, the Union issues Fatwa, Islamic rulings, on critical matters for Sunni followers of Islam.
