Kurdistan Democratic Party Leader Calls on Iraqi Government for Resolution of Issues with Kurdistan Region

In a statement released today by Masoud Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and a prominent Kurdish leader, he called upon the federal authorities in Baghdad to address and resolve lingering issues with the Kurdistan Region in the coming year.

Barzani emphasized the expectation that the Iraqi federal government should take proactive steps to settle outstanding matters with the Kurdistan Region, urging a commitment to the principles outlined in the constitution and the best interests of the Iraqi people.

"In the new year, the Iraqi federal government is expected to take steps to resolve issues with the Kurdistan Region and commit to the principles of the constitution and the interests of the Iraqi nations," stated Barzani in the released statement from Barzani Headquarters.

The Kurdish leader stressed the longstanding message of the Kurdish people to engage in dialogue, understanding, and seeking solutions, asserting that this approach is the most effective way to achieve stability, peace, and progress.

Highlighting the importance of protecting the spirit of peaceful coexistence among communities with diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds in the country, Barzani underlined that the region could no longer tolerate problems, violence, terrorism, and instability. He affirmed that the nations of the region have the right to live in peace, security, and free from denialism.

Addressing the international community, Barzani called upon them to play an active role and fulfill their commitments in safeguarding peace and security. He urged the prevention of the spread of crises and threats in the region.

The statement comes as Erbil faces challenges in ensuring timely salary payments to civil servants, with Baghdad accused of violating the Iraqi constitution and financial entitlements of the people of the Kurdistan Region. Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Region's commitment to seeking enduring solutions to address ongoing budget issues in its relationship with Baghdad, within the framework of the country's constitution and existing agreements between the two parties.
