Iraqi Prime Minister Reaffirms Support for Palestinian Statehood on International Day of Solidarity
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani reiterated Iraq's unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people's right to establish their own state on their land. In a tweet on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Prime Minister Sudani stated, "On this day, we reaffirm our support for their right to establish a state on the entire Palestinian land."
Expressing concern over the situation in Gaza, Prime Minister Sudani strongly emphasized the need to cease arbitrary practices by occupation authorities against defenseless civilians. He urged all countries worldwide to take immediate action to end the suffering resulting from the recent aggression.
The Palestinian-Israeli conflict escalated after a surprise attack by Hamas forces on Israel on October 7th, resulting in a tragic toll with over 1,400 Israeli lives and more than 15,000 Palestinian lives lost. Following renewed confrontations, Baghdad called for the Arab League to convene and address both the conflict and the broader Palestinian cause.
In a demonstration of solidarity, Iraq has dispatched at least four shipments of humanitarian relief and aid to assist those affected in Gaza, where a temporary ceasefire is currently in effect. The international community is closely watching developments in the region as efforts continue to address the ongoing crisis and work towards a lasting resolution.
