Implementation of Track & Trace System for Medicines and Health Cards Will Commence Next Year

The Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), is digitising health infrastructure, as highlighted by a recent two-day workshop.

The initiative includes digital tracking of medicines from production to patient use. Citizens will receive identity cards and health accounts to record their health history for future insurance and services.

Dr. Saman Barzanji, the KRG Health Minister, stated that next year's goals include launching the digital ‘Track & Trace’ system for medications and health cards to enhance transparency and efficiency, and fight corruption.

Dr. Wael Hatahet, WHO's Representative in the Kurdistan Region, confirmed WHO's ongoing support to the KRG, emphasising their technical assistance to improve the health sector. The focus will be on enhancing technical support, and adopting successful international standards and strategies.

The KRG is committed to the digitisation of all aspects of life in the Kurdistan Region, as a key part of its ongoing development.
