Kurdistan Region's Pivotal Role in Promoting Peace and Stability Highlighted at MEPS
On Tuesday, 21 November 2023, the Middle East Peace and Security Forum (MEPS) concluded in Duhok. This forum aimed to discuss peace and security issues in the Middle East and identify feasible solutions to the region's challenges. Politicians and experts shared various viewpoints during the sessions.
Fabrice Balanche, a researcher at the University of Lyon, France, highlighted the Kurdistan Region as a calm haven in a turbulent area. Speaking with the Department of Media and Information, he noted the Middle East's challenging security due to ongoing conflicts, but commended the Kurdistan Region's ability to maintain peace and stability.
Dr. Abdullah Baabood, a researcher from Qatar, remarked to the DMI that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has actively worked to address crises, seeking innovative strategies to manage them. He pointed out that while the immediate effects of the KRG's efforts might be modest, they are likely to significantly contribute to regional peace and security in the future.
Dr. Jotiar Adel, Head of the DMI, stressed the Kurdistan Region's crucial role in fostering peace and stability. He called for incorporating diverse perspectives into constructive solutions and highlighted the Region's dedication to enhancing relations with Iraq and neighboring nations for better cooperation. Dr. Adel emphasised the Kurdistan Region's commitment to facilitating dialogues that are vital for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
On November 20, 2023, MEPS convened at the American University in Duhok, drawing a significant gathering of politicians, researchers, and academics worldwide.
