Significant Progress in Physical Therapy in Kurdistan Region, Utilizing Robotics
Physical therapy is becoming increasingly integral to healthcare, and in recent years, remarkable advancements have been made in the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the province of Erbil, with the adoption of robotic technology.
In this context, Ariane Adnan, an expert and the director of the Physical Therapy Center, stated, "We established this center in 2019, with our initial mission being to provide physical therapy for individuals dealing with joint issues, back pain, and shoulder discomfort. However, after two years, we noticed that some patients who had suffered from strokes were traveling abroad for physical therapy. This prompted us to bring the necessary equipment to the Kurdistan Region, ensuring that our citizens would not have to seek treatment abroad. This has resulted in significant cost and effort savings."
Ariane further explained, "In line with this, we procured robotic equipment for our center and trained specialized personnel in this field, who have become experts. Additionally, we brought in foreign experts to train local staff in the use of these devices and equipment."
The center's director emphasized the significant impact it has had on the development of physical therapy for those in need. According to Ariane Adnan, over the past two years, the center has received a large number of patients from the Kurdistan Region, as well as over 300 patients from the central and southern provinces of Iraq. These patients have experienced highly positive results and have greatly benefited from the therapy.
Furthermore, the center has begun receiving patients from outside the country for treatment in coordination with hospitals in the patients' home countries, marking a significant achievement for the Kurdistan Region in terms of medical tourism development.
Regarding the robotic devices, Ariane Adnan stated, "In Iraq, we are the first center to introduce robotic devices, which include devices for walking, hand and foot training, all of which are of world-class quality and technology."
She added, "Following these treatments, there are other therapies using electronic stimulation, injections, magnetic therapy, and lasers, all of which are among the best types of equipment that provide significant benefits to patients, helping them return to their natural state."
It's worth mentioning that the Kurdistan Regional Government has provided the necessary facilitations within legal frameworks for the establishment of physical therapy centers, both public and private, over the past four years. This has contributed to the development and enhancement of the healthcare sector in various technical and technological aspects.
