Turkish Drone Strike Targets PKK Fighters in Kurdistan, Causing Casualties

In a developing story from the Kurdistan region, a Turkish military drone strike has targeted a group of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters, resulting in casualties. The attack occurred earlier today in the village of Basaw, located in the Mawat district of Sulaymaniyah province.

The Kurdistan Counterterrorism Directorate has confirmed the incident, stating that a Turkish drone conducted the airstrike in the vicinity of Basaw. According to their official statement released on Saturday, September 9, 2023, the strike tragically claimed the lives of two PKK fighters and left another fighter injured.

Local reports indicate that the Turkish drone strike caused a fire in the targeted village of Basaw, but fortunately, there were no human casualties reported. Civil defense teams are actively working to control the fire that erupted as a result of the attack.

This is not the first instance of such attacks in the Mawat district and its surrounding areas. Turkey has previously conducted airstrikes and drone operations in this region, leading to injuries and damage to the properties of the local residents.

Just two months ago, on June 4, 2023, another Turkish drone targeted two PKK members in the Wadi Swayla area, situated between the villages of Klala and Qamish, both within the Mawat district.

The ongoing presence of PKK fighters in the region has made it a repeated target for military operations, raising concerns about the safety of civilians and the potential for further material damage to properties in border areas.

As the situation continues to develop, authorities in the Kurdistan region are closely monitoring the aftermath of this recent drone strike, and investigations are expected to be launched to assess the full extent of the damage and casualties.
